The Peculiar Water Wells Project

Access to clean and safe water is one of the greatest needs in rural Uganda. In many of the communities we serve, families walk long distances — sometimes over 5 kilometers — to fetch water from ponds, swamps, or open streams. These water sources are often shared with animals, making them unsafe and a leading cause of waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid.

Children, especially girls, are the most affected. Hours spent walking for water mean missed school days, poor performance, and an increased risk of abuse along the way. Mothers too, carry the heavy burden of fetching water daily, leaving them with little time for income-generating activities.

The Peculiar Water Wells Project, under The Peculiar Love Foundation, was birthed to change this reality. We believe that clean water is life and that every family deserves safe, nearby, and reliable water sources.

What We Do

  1. Community Boreholes & Wells

    • Construction of deep boreholes and protected wells in villages that lack access to clean water.
Installation of hand pumps that are easy to maintain locally.
Training local water committees to manage and maintain each well for long-term sustainability.

  2. Sanitation & Hygiene Education

    • Teaching families proper water storage and usage to prevent contamination.
Promoting handwashing, sanitation, and hygiene practices in schools and communities.
Distributing water filters and containers to vulnerable households.

  3. Empowering Communities

    • Reducing the time and burden of fetching water, especially for women and girls.
Allowing children to attend school consistently instead of spending hours fetching water.
Enabling families to use clean water for farming, cooking, and improved health.

Impact

Through this project, entire villages are being transformed:
Families once trapped in cycles of sickness now drink clean water daily.
Children who used to miss school now have time and energy to study.
Women and girls no longer risk walking long distances alone for unsafe water.
Communities are healthier, stronger, and more productive because one of their most basic needs is met.
Every borehole drilled serves hundreds of people daily and becomes a wellspring of hope, dignity, and life.

Partnerships & Sustainability

The project works hand-in-hand with local leaders, engineers, and community volunteers to ensure sustainability. Donor support covers drilling, pump installation, and training costs. Communities contribute through involvement in site selection, maintenance, and protection of the wells.

Why It Matters

Water is more than just a drink. It is health, education, safety, and dignity. The Peculiar Water Wells Project is not simply about providing clean water — it is about restoring hope and giving families the foundation to build brighter futures.

As the Bible reminds us in Isaiah 41:17–18:
“The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.”

Through every well drilled, we believe God is answering this promise for His people.

The Peculiar Widows and Orphans Support Program

Widows and orphans represent some of the most vulnerable groups. Cultural stigma, economic hardship, and lack of support systems leave widows isolated and struggling to provide for their families. Orphans, on the other hand, often grow up without parental love, guidance, or basic provision, making them highly vulnerable to poverty, abuse, and exploitation.

The Peculiar Family Support Program

Strong families are the foundation of healthy communities. Yet many families in Uganda struggle under the weight of poverty, abandonment, illness, or displacement. When families break down, children are left vulnerable to abuse, neglect, or dropping out of school.

The Peculiar Annual Christmas Package Delivery

Every December, as families around the world gather to celebrate Christmas, many vulnerable households in Uganda face the painful reality of lacking even the simplest meal or gift to mark the season. Widows, single mothers, orphans, the elderly, and entire communities often go through the holidays in silence and need.
